2013 Favorites and 2014 Resolutions

Okay, so before I upload my Amsterdam pictures (which I have already done along with a lengthy post about my trip), I wanted to do a sort of end-of-2013 post.

2013 was a huge year for me. I feel like literally, every aspect of my life changed. Graduating from college, moving across the world, and getting my first full-time job were really just the tip of the iceberg. Those are big things, but they're really just surface things. Things you tell people about when they ask what you've been up to.

Really, my mindsets have changed. My behaviors and the way I interact with the world, my friends, my family, my boyfriend, all have changed. I have become braver and bolder. I have done things I never thought I could do. I have ventured to places I have only read about. I have shown myself that I am capable of anything.

I guess it sounds kind of cheesy when I write it all out, but that's how I feel. Sometimes, when Ben and I are walking through the city center, or we're boarding a plane to Europe, or I'm ordering food at the local market, I think to myself, "What the heck is this life? Like, who is this girl and where is she and what the hell is she saying?"
It's surreal.

So all that being said, let's look back at my resolutions for 2013:

  • Learn Russian
  • Exercise more often
  • Find more meals to cook by myself
  • Be less anxious
  • Work hard at being a more understanding and patient girlfriend and friend
  • Always make an effort to stay in contact with people back in the states
  • Read more
I just read this out loud to Ben and he said I definitely learned to cook more meals by myself, learned to be more patient, stayed in contact with people from home, and read more. I agree.

So here are my resolutions for 2014:

  • Don't panic
  • Cook healthier meals and learn some more exotic recipes
  • Stop eating cheese and whipped cream for breakfast when you're too lazy to make eggs
  • Get back to doing yoga
  • Write more. Write everyday.
So there ya go. If you're also keep making resolutions, let me know in the comments!

And then here are some of my favorite things/products/experiences from 2013 I thought I'd share as well:

Moving to a big city was really hard on my skin, so I had to expand from my simple Clean and Clear face wash routine and use some better products to get my skin under control. The first two are the ones that I think really saved my skin.
I didn't really use to wear much makeup, but a combination of bad breakouts from the pollution and trying to fit in more with the locals, led me to beauty stores (which is fine, because makeup is fun anyway). Here's some stuff I discovered and really liked this year:
TV Shows
We're still recovering from Breaking Bad...
If you've read this blog for awhile, this shouldn't really come as a suprise

  • Our trip to Munich was a travel highlight. I loved exploring that city in the summer, riding our bikes, seeing castles, and enjoying beer and pretzels in between.
  • Amsterdam, but you haven't seen that yet.
  • Seeing the Red Square for the first time

  • Afterlight, for editing pictures
  • VSCO Cam for editing photos
  • Candy Crush (which took about two whole months from my life)
  • The Room, a really challenging game of puzzles- kind of like MYST

  • All the blogs on the right hand side of my blog are blogs I read regularly and are worth checking out. Super sweet girls, too :)
  • I read XOJane and Rookie pretty much every day
And these are SOME of my favorite pictures from the year (it was very overwhelming going through my iPhoto and picking these)!

a few nights before we left, making bagels for the first time

some fancy bar we went to

our first time drinking Russian vodka

first time in the Red Square

the only people who drink this beer besides me are drunks. the old women at the market always look sadly at me when I buy it, probably assuming I have a drunk for a husband at home. i think it's yummy.

my parents.
