my little house

Have you ever been to the Thorne Rooms at the Chicago Art Institute? Well, if you haven't you should. Because they are awesome sauce. I've been fascinated with them ever since I can remember and I was super excited to show them to Ben when we went to the Chicago Art Institute over Thanksgiving Break. The details are amazing! I know I'm almost 23, but I still want to break into them and play with all the little things. Geeeeesh....

I also finally saved up enough money from my hostess job to afford the Canon Rebel T2i which was really exciting. I was only able to take these pictures because of my sweet new photo capabilities.

I'm glad I got a new camera before Ben and I left the country. It'll be nice to document our Eastern adventures, beautifully.

I had such a wonderful Thanksgiving "weekend" with my family. There were many great conversations, good food, movies, laughs, and happiness. I am so grateful for the relationship I have with my parents, my brother, and Ben.

Ben and I also continued our interview process with the company in Japan. Though the interview went well, we still were not offered any sort of job until March, and even then it's up in the air. However, a company in Moscow, Russia reached out to us and offered us both teaching positions in the beginning of January and after much deliberation, we decided Russia would be a great fit for us. So this Thanksgiving was an extra special one as we prepare to leave the country in the next few weeks.

Ben and my brother, Bobby

My father makes the most amazing homemade bread.

There's actually a cute story to go along with that wand. I got it years ago (when I was like, 3) at the Renaissance Faire and kept it until I was a teenager. Then for my family's annual White Elephant Gift Exchange, I (or my mother, nobody is quite sure) gave it away. I mentioned it to my mom awhile ago and she made some phone calls, my uncle did some digging, and she presented it to me on Thanksgiving with a hug and "I may not be able to make all your worries go away, but maybe this will help." It was an incredibly sweet gesture, thank you Mom. You are infinitely the best.

Happy Thanksgiving.

the afterglow

I am currently locked out of my apartment, so I thought I'd share some photos of this summer I edited on my phone with this sweet new app called Afterglow. I can't seem to ever have enough picture-editing apps on my phone.

...and I'm sorry.
I want to be writing more, but currently... there is not much to say.
Ben and I have been applying to jobs all over the world. But we have had some good news! A school in Russia offered Ben a job and me a tutoring gig, as well as visas and a place to live. It's been such a relief to finally have somewhere to go, but it is in Siberia and were not too sure how we feel about moving to truly the middle of nowhere just yet. We did have a "big kid" interview yesterday in Chicago, but it was a bit of a reach job.

apparently I should have been learning Japanesse like, years ago.

It'd be cool if we got this job, but it also might put us in the middle of nowhere (but in Japan) and we were really hoping to be near some cities.
Decisions, decisions.

In other news...
We went and saw Vice President Joe Biden speak at a rally in town! It was amazing. Hearing a politician you believe in speak can be really empowering and moving. I recommend everyone to try and see someone they admire one day.

Ben was also photographed by some random photographer and ended up on BuzzFeed.com as "Ridiculously Good Looking Joe Biden Fan".
It was pretty bizarre, but we got a kick out of it. I was surprised though by how many people left rude comments! People on the internet can be so cruel, and so wrong. Funny, if anyone who said something negative about Ben actually met him, they would think much differently about the way they described him. Food for thought.

So I guess that's where were at now. Just sitting and waiting, applying, waiting, watching movies, waiting, waiting, waiting...

I feel like I'm on the edge of something great, I just can't jump into it quite yet.

Have a wonderful Sunday. Oh, and bake these! Ben made those Dark Chocolate and Sea Salt Caramel Shortbread treats for me while I was work and it was the most amazing thing I've ever had.
